October 24-25, 2008
Promoted in collaboration with national and Euro-Mediterranean social networks, the Conference is a two-day meeting among civil society organizations, enterprises and institutions, from all countries of the Euro-Mediterranean area.
The participants (from countries in the Euro-Mediterranean area) will debate on the dynamics of cooperation in local development processes and the possible establishment of transnational shared goals. Among the invited speakers will be towering personalities of the institutional, cultural, social and economic world from the Euro-Mediterranean area.
Purpose of the Euro-Mediterranean Conference of the Third Sector for Social Responsibilities:
• Supporting the economic, social and political union among in the Mediterranean region;
• Giving birth to a permanent space for debating issues related to the protagonism of civil society in the processes of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation;
• Participating in the development of public policies for local development and social cohesion which adopt a transnational cooperation and intercultural dialogue approach as an element of competitive advantage in the Euro-Mediterranean region;
• Facilitate the exchange and sharing of best practices based on the principle of social responsibility;
• Supporting intercultural dialogue as a precondition for the promotion of peace in the Mediterranean, the crossroad of three continents.
The Conference will be divided into plenary sessions and thematic/geographical workshops
There will be three levels of debate:
A. MEDITERRANEAN VISION: reflections on the challenges, constraints and opportunities that will affect players of the Euro-Mediterranean region over the next decade. Some experts will stimulate the participants through the deepening of issues and possible scenarios;
B. GIVE PRIORITY: thematic workshops on issues that participating organizations consider as priorities and on which they intend to focus their joint effort; our idea is to set these issues through a prior contact with participants;
C. TESTS OF EXCHANGE: an area for contacts and working arrangement between organizations and institutions to design partnerships aimed at addressing common and shared issues.
Protagonists of the conference are civil society’s organizations, which will debate with the business world and public institutions, around three dimensions of analysis:
1. The role of the third sector;
2. The corporate social responsibility;
3. Public policies of social cohesion and local development.

Social responsibility can become a peculiar way to local development in the Euro-Mediterranean area. The taking on of responsibilities by all the actors on the territory and the willingness of different subjects to cooperate can represent a new idea of solidarity.

Within the current processes for Euro-Mediterranean cooperation, the firm link between non profit organizations can be an essential contribution. The existence of programs co-financed by EU and International cooperation financing lines (bilateral or decentralized) are tools that can help the growth of a “Mediterranean social capital” to be invested in the development of trust, dialogue and Exchange relationships.
